Cryo technology
Cryo technology is a narrowly focused niche for the thermal treatment of certain metallic materials at extremely low temperatures with liquid nitrogen. The fact that mechanical properties improve with exposure to extremely low temperatures was already discovered in products returned to Earth as part of space exploration.
Cryogenic technology is mainly used only in the aerospace industry, but has also found its place in the motor racing industry (“drag racing”, etc.).
The aim of our research and testing is to use this technology to improve the durability of materials in tooling applications.
PROJECT
We have developed and manufactured a PLC-controlled cryogenic chamber in which various small parts of forming and cutting tools are frozen using specific protocols. We are looking for a partner in this field with whom we can carry out more tests under realistic conditions of use. Cooperation would be of interest in particular with the forming and injection moulding industry.
